The police vehicle collided with a van during the chase, resulting in the hospitalization of the two officers at Ninewells Hospital. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Golf, which was driving “erratically” through Perth earlier that day, was later found abandoned in the vicinity.

Emergency services quickly responded to the crash site on Princes Street. Fire crews worked to rescue an officer who was reportedly trapped inside the police vehicle.

Following the crash, Princes Street between Canal Street and Victoria Street remains closed as investigations continue. Authorities are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage to help piece together the events leading up to the collision.

Inspector Michelle Burns from Road Policing stated, “We understand that the Volkswagen Golf has been seen driving erratically in various areas in Perth today, and we’re appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.” Burns also urged motorists with dash-cam footage of the vehicle to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2004 of Tuesday, 23 April, 2024,” she added.

The police are focused on determining the exact circumstances of the collision and locating any witnesses who might have seen the Volkswagen Golf’s movements on Tuesday. The public’s help in providing additional information could be crucial in the ongoing investigation.
