Police have now confirmed that they are treating the death as suspicious. An investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and officers are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Ally Semple, from the Major Investigation Teams (West), stated: “At this time, we believe that the attack on the man was targeted. Officers have been conducting enquiries in the area, including checking CCTV and speaking to local residents, but we’d like to hear from anyone with information who has not yet come forward.

“We’d be interested in any doorbell/private CCTV or dashcam footage from the area taken between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday, as it could contain clues that help identify any suspects. There will be an increased police presence in the area as our enquiries continue.”
